Anyone know what day Sunday, May 11th is? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? I will give you a clue. It’s Mother’s Day. Sorry, I am not good at giving clues, plus you all knew the answer anyway!
Every year I rack my brain on what I should do with the kids that would be special for my wife. I gotta toot my own horn a little bit and admit that I am getting pretty good at the whole Mother’s Day thing! Although, I should verify this with my wife first before I completely put my foot in my mouth.
But anyway, here are a few Mother’s Day gift ideas that my wife has loved that didn’t break the bank:
~ Music Mix - If you have your music collection on itunes this one becomes really easy. Put together a mix of songs that shows her how much she means to you. Last year I had my kids help me and they had a great time and my wife still listens to that CD in the minivan.
~ Breakfast in Bed - An oldie but a goodie. Although a word of warning, if your kids are young, this becomes VERY labor intensive for Dad! But it is definitely worth the effort and the mess. TIP: To all Dad’s, have a tall ladder handy to remove waffle batter from the ceiling!
~ Personalized Gifts - I’m not a big fan of the Hallmark card as I don’t need a card company telling me how I should feel towards someone. So I help the kids make Mom a Mother’s Day card and let them write whatever they want on it. Always a hit. Another fun option we have done is to use a service like Snapfish.com or Shutterfly.com and make a custom calendar with pictures for Mom to hang in the kitchen.
~ Gift of Time Spent - My wife has told me several times the past few years that she does not want anything for Mother’s Day other than doing something together as a family. I use to think that she just didn’t want me to spend any money on her. But when I see the huge smile on her face when the kids and I plan a fairly inexpensive outing (like a bike ride and picnic) for Mother’s Day I knew I was wrong.
