My 2008 Goals

Yes, I know I am a little behind on the resolutions, but this year I put a little more thought into my goals.
We start off every year in the same ways, we clear out the clutter and donate to charity, re-work our budget and try to stretch our dollars as far as we can to allot for more savings (think IRA and 529 contributions) and we re-allocate our investments to suit our needs.
This year, my goals are pretty much the same, yet I plan on REALLY putting forth the effort to accomplish them. So that is my REAL resolution: to accomplish all these goals.
My Financial Goals for 2008:
- Max out our retirement accounts, each year we max out my hubby’s 401K, and my Roth IRA always ends up short of the max. This year I plan to focus on maxing out BOTH accounts.
- Add 5,000 to our emergency fund. I am a nut about the emergency fund. I am a worry-wort and need to know we have money out there for life’s disasters. Currently, we have 15,000 and I plan to bump that up to at least 20,000 by year’s end.
- Re-balance our budget and continue to live BELOW our means. We are able to save the money we save because we scrimp and sacrifice, even when we don’t have to. I would rather have financial security than a bunch of useless garbage like flat screen TVs and fancy cars.
- Make 20,000 without leaving the house to go to a J-O-B. Yes, I know this is REALLY ambitious, but what is a goal if it doesn’t make you try with all your might? I plan on keeping everyone posted on this adventure, I will update my earnings monthly, I am working on putting a chart or graph of some kind on this blog for all to see, but am not really sure how to do it! So, if you know how to do that, let me know!
Goals for this blog:
- Make this blog more user friendly. I started this blog to help people, and want to do the best job that I possibly can, so making this blog easier to navigate will be a big priority.
- Carve out more time to dedicate to this blog. Time is something I never have enough of, but I know that when I make it a point to find the time, I will. So, you will be seeing a lot more of me in 2008!
- Increase RSS readership. I haven’t a clue how to do this, but I would like to see more folks signing up for the feeds. (Any suggestions? Let me know!)
My Personal Goals:
- Lose 20 LBS. With every pregnancy, I ended up with an extra 5 lbs, so after 4 kids I am 20 lbs overweight and ready to take it off. My health is very important to me and I know that I will look better, feel better and just be healthier if I lose the weight. Besides, I CANNOT WAIT to fit in my “skinny jeans”. Oh, the beautiful Gap Curvy Flares Size 6, how I have missed you. I would like to document this journey on this blog too, I feel like if I am sharing this with the world, I will be held accountable and be more likely to succeed.
I really hope to accomplish all the goals I have set for myself and my family this year, but even if I don’t I can honestly say I will be one happy camper. I am truly blessed with a wonderful family and a happy home and nothing in life could be sweeter.
I wish you all great success in 2008!

Good for you! I so need to work on the emergency fund. I just can’t do it until I get my credit card debt paid off. I won’t have any extra money until I do that. I would love to be able to take what I spend in paying off the cards and put thatin an emergency fund!
And as far as that $20,000 goal, girl you had better share that info! Good luck!

Yes, the emergency fund is a must have! It is good to not have to worry about what we would do without our usual income!
Yes, the 20,000 goal should be an interesting one to complete! I will definitely keep everyone in the loop with that! I think I should be able to manage if I keep focused on it!
