Kyle’s Coupons 03-27-08
The following is a guest post from Kyle at Rather-Be-Shopping. Each week Kyle will be sharing with us a post full of good deals. Kyle is fun and always has excellent stories, tips and bargains to share. Make sure you check in every Thursday morning for his featured article and coupons.
I am a big proponent of saving money by figuring out how to do as many things around the house as possible. Whether it be big jobs like putting in a lawn with sprinklers, to small jobs like fixing a leaky toilet, you can really save a lot of money and get a lot of self satisfaction conquering the task yourself.
A few tips. While many employees at your ‘big box’ home improvement stores know very little more than how to tie an apron around their waist, there is always at least one expert in each department. Find out who they are and get to know them by name! They will be a great ally. Invite them to dinner, buy them a hot dog, whatever it takes! They have always given my great advice.
Find a good resource book. I have one book for the do-it-yourselfer that I carry around like a bible. It is the Readers Digest Complete Do-It-Yourself manual and it is awesome. It has big ol’ pictures and great diagrams for those out there like me, who would prefer to look at a picture than actually have to read! Worth a look, and not very expensive.

Thank you Kyle for this informative blog. I would also like to say that places like Home Depot (I’m not really sure if Lowes does it - I try not to go there since it is a little more pricier even though it’s nice and clean.) offers free classes from time to time. I remember when I was 18 my Dad went to take a free class at Home Depot to learn how to put tile down on the floor. My Dad did an ok job for being his first time, but sometimes I think he’s just lazy and some of his mistakes could have been prevented. (^_^)
My husband and I are a young married couple with a baby on the way. Eventually, we would love to buy a house, especially, since my little one is almost on her way. I’m a homemaker and will probably be one until my little one starts school or until my online business takes off. Acknowledging the fact that we will be limited to our first home purchase I wouldn’t mind getting a ‘handy man’ special and trying to fix it our selves. Everytime I watch these Do-It-Yourself shows on the tele I am amazed at the outcome, but I also realized that they bring tools that I’m sure are on the pricy side. I’m glad to see that there are coupons and discounts for these types of purchases too. I look forward to more of your postings.

Jennifer-I love the free Home Depot Classes (i love anything free!) and I took one that taught this cool painting technique that I used in my daughter’s bedroom-it turned out lovely and it only cost me 20$ for paint and supplies!
